OYO ASSEMBLY DISMISSES LAWMAKER’S APOLOGY OVER BRIBERY ALLEGATIONS

The Oyo State House of Assembly has rejected an apology tendered by one of its members over alleged bribery claims, describing the move as insincere and lacking genuine remorse.

The Assembly took the decision during plenary after deliberating on the lawmaker’s apology, which was presented amid mounting allegations of misconduct bordering on bribery. Lawmakers faulted the apology, insisting that it failed to adequately address the gravity of the allegations or demonstrate accountability.

According to the House, the matter goes beyond a mere expression of regret and touches on the integrity and credibility of the legislature, which must be protected at all times.

“The apology does not reflect sincere remorse nor does it sufficiently address the serious nature of the allegations before this House,” a lawmaker said during the session.

Members of the Assembly maintained that ethical standards and legislative discipline must not be compromised, stressing that public office holders are expected to uphold transparency and conduct themselves in a manner that inspires public confidence.

The House further resolved that appropriate legislative procedures would be followed to thoroughly address the allegations, noting that the outcome would be guided by due process and established rules.

The development has sparked public interest, with observers calling for a transparent handling of the matter to reinforce accountability within the state’s legislative arm.

The Oyo State House of Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline, ethical governance, and public trust, assuring residents that the issue would not be swept under the carpet.
