POLICE UNCOVER ILLEGAL BABY FACTORY IN EKITI, RESCUE SIX CHILDREN
Ado-Ekiti — January 27, 2026
The Ekiti State Police Command has uncovered an alleged illegal baby factory operating in Ikere Local Government Area of the state, leading to the arrest of five suspects and the rescue of six children believed to be victims of exploitation.
The discovery was made following a credible tip-off received by the police, according to the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Joe Eribo, who disclosed the development while addressing journalists in Ado-Ekiti.
The Commissioner said the prime suspect, Onyechi Oluwadare, a 43-year-old woman, was arrested alongside four others at a premises located behind a popular hotel along Ise-Ekiti Road, Ikere-Ekiti, allegedly used for the illegal operation.
Other suspects arrested include Onuoha Gloria (28 years), Victoria Linus (25 years), Ihegbogu Mercy (21 years), and Emmanuel Esther (23 years), who was said to be heavily pregnant at the time of arrest.
According to the police, the arrest took place on January 24, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m., after operatives swiftly cordoned off the premises and carried out a search.
“During the operation, six children between the ages of two and nine years, reasonably suspected to be under bondage and exploitation, were rescued from the facility,” the police stated.
Items recovered from the scene included baby delivery materials, rolls of dexamethasone tablets, and several bottles of Goya oil, all of which are believed to be connected to the alleged operation.
However, speaking with investigators, the prime suspect, Onyechi Oluwadare, denied running a baby factory, claiming instead that the building was used solely as a place of prayer for individuals seeking divine intervention.
The police said investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the operation, while the rescued children have been placed under protective custody. The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Ekiti State Police Command urged members of the public to continue providing useful information to aid the fight against crime and criminality in the state.
