ELECTORAL REFORMS: SENATE CONSTITUTES 7-MAN COMMITTEE, TAPS ADEGBOMIRE SAN AS CHAIRMAN
The Senate has constituted a seven-member committee to review the Electoral Act, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral framework and address emerging challenges in the conduct of elections.
Senator Adeniyi Adegbomire, SAN, was appointed as Chairman of the Electoral Act Review Committee.
Other members of the committee include former governors and serving senators: Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Adamu Aliero (Kebbi), and Danjuma Goje (Gombe). Also named to the committee are Senators Tony Nwoye and Titus Zam.
The review committee is expected to examine the Electoral Act with a view to proposing amendments that will enhance transparency, credibility, and efficiency in Nigeria’s electoral process.
The constitution of the committee underscores the Senate’s commitment to electoral reforms ahead of future elections, amid calls from stakeholders for improvements in election management, dispute resolution, and the use of technology in voting and result transmission.
The committee is expected to submit its report to the Senate upon completion of its assignment.
