CONTROVERSIAL SINGER PORTABLE REGAINS FREEDOM AFTER WEEK IN DETENTION

Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria

Nigerian musician Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has regained his freedom after spending approximately one week in police custody following his arraignment on multiple criminal charges.

The controversial singer was arraigned before a Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, on January 12, 2026, facing a nine-count charge including assault, theft, causing harm, and resisting arrest over an incident that reportedly involved a violent altercation linked to his baby mama, Ashabi Simple.

Initially, the court denied him bail due to the absence of the police officer connected with the alleged assault. As a result, Portable was remanded in custody while awaiting further bail proceedings.

On Monday, January 19, 2026, he was released after meeting his bail conditions, marking his return to freedom. In a now-viral video shared on social media, Portable appeared surrounded by friends and supporters celebrating his release. During the moment, some people in the clip playfully gave him a new nickname, “Innocenty,” which he embraced.

Following his release, Portable’s manager, Baby Luv, took to Instagram to acknowledge the role of the singer’s first wife, Bewaji, in standing by him during the challenging period. She expressed gratitude, writing: “All glory to God. Grace spoke, mercy prevailed. #Freedom. She stayed when it was hardest. God honoured her faith #Thankful.”

Portable’s legal troubles are not new; he has faced several detentions and court appearances over the years related to various allegations ranging from assault to theft.

His release has sparked reactions among fans and followers, with many expressing support and anticipation for his next steps in both his personal life and music career.
