2027: KWANKWASO SUPPORTERS FLOAT OBI–KWANKWASO PRESIDENTIAL TICKET
KWANKWASO SUPPORTERS FLOAT OBI–KWANKWASO PRESIDENTIAL TICKET
Supporters of former Kano State governor and senator, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, have proposed a joint presidential ticket pairing him with former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general election.
The proposal was made on Friday in Kano by the Kwankwaso Support Group 2027, which described the suggested alliance as a strategic political partnership capable of addressing Nigeria’s current socio-economic and security challenges.
Speaking on behalf of the group, its leader, Abba Gwale, said the Obi–Kwankwaso combination reflects what he described as a shifting political mood across the country and growing public dissatisfaction with the status quo.
“As supporters and loyalists of Senator Kwankwaso, we have proposed and thrown our weight behind a joint presidential ticket with Peter Obi, irrespective of the political platform,” Gwale said.
He noted that the proposed alliance is aimed at uniting Obi’s strong support base in the southern part of the country with Kwankwaso’s influence in the North, creating what he described as a broad national coalition.
According to Gwale, many Nigerians are increasingly frustrated by insecurity, economic hardship and rising hunger, and are seeking alternative leadership options ahead of the next election cycle.
“We believe that if this duo is given the mandate, Nigeria can move in a better direction. Nigerians are tired of insecurity, hunger and economic pressure,” he added.
Gwale explained that the proposed ticket is being promoted as a means of building a cross-regional political movement capable of challenging the ruling party in 2027.
He further stated that both Obi and Kwankwaso have consistently presented themselves as leaders committed to policies that prioritise the welfare of ordinary Nigerians, which he said forms the basis of the proposed partnership.
Commenting on speculations surrounding Kwankwaso’s alleged demands for political positions in discussions with the ruling party, Gwale dismissed such claims, describing them as exaggerated.
According to him, Kwankwaso’s political engagements are focused on protecting the interests of his supporters across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
“Kwankwaso’s support base cuts across regions and social classes, particularly among ordinary Nigerians struggling to make ends meet,” he said.
As the 2027 election draws closer, political observers say discussions around possible alliances and coalition-building are expected to intensify across the country.
