2027: MAKINDE TO JOIN ADC, TO EMERGE AS ATIKU’S RUNNING MATE
FAYOSE ALLEGES MAKINDE MAY JOIN ADC, EMERGE AS ATIKU’S RUNNING MATE
Fresh political speculations have emerged ahead of the 2027 general elections following claims that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, may join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and emerge as the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The allegation was made by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who claimed to have knowledge of a closed-door meeting reportedly held between Makinde and Atiku in Minna, Niger State.
According to Fayose, the meeting explored the possibility of Makinde joining the ADC on the condition that he would be offered the party’s vice-presidential ticket if Atiku secures the ADC presidential nomination.
Fayose further alleged that Makinde pledged financial support to strengthen the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 elections, including an initial contribution of N10 billion for what he described as the party’s “proper take-off,” subject to internal agreements.
He also claimed that discussions considered political permutations in the South-West and South-South regions, as well as broader electoral strategies ahead of the primaries and the general election.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Governor Seyi Makinde nor former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has publicly confirmed the claims. The ADC has also not issued any official statement regarding the alleged arrangement.
Political analysts note that coalition talks and strategic alignments are common in the build-up to major elections, particularly as parties position themselves ahead of primary contests.
The 2027 general election is expected to witness intense political negotiations, alliances, and realignments across party lines as aspirants seek to consolidate regional and national support.
