2027: OYO LP MEMBERS, OTHERS DEFECT TO ADC

Some members of the Labour Party (LP) and other political parties in Oyo State on Wednesday formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.

The defectors were received by the state chairman of the ADC, Yinka Olona, during the unveiling of the South Senatorial District at Foko area, Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.

Speaking at the event, Olona described the ADC as the only political party with practicable internal democracy in the state and assured the new members of full support. He said, “The ADC remains the hope of the masses in Nigeria as other parties have failed in the implementation of their policies. There is neither discrimination nor imposition of candidates in the ADC, unlike other parties where Godfatherism has become the order of the day.”

He further emphasized that members aspiring for political office would face no hindrances as long as they comply with the party’s established principles and procedures. “You are all free to contest for any elective office at the local, state, and national levels,” Olona said.

Highlighting the party’s focus, the chairman said Nigerians look to the ADC to address challenges such as increasing poverty, insecurity, and other societal menaces. He urged the new members to shun thuggery and any actions that could undermine the party’s objectives ahead of the 2027 elections.

In his address, a former LP member, Aderibigbe Aderoju, who recently joined the ADC, said their decision to defect was influenced by the party’s mass-oriented policies.
