ADC LAUNCHES NATIONWIDE MEMBERSHIP DRIVE, TARGETS APC DEFEAT IN 2027 POLLS

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unveiled a nationwide membership registration drive as part of its strategy to expand its grassroots base and position itself for the 2027 general elections.

At the launch event held in Abuja on Thursday, senior party leaders said the initiative is aimed at strengthening the party’s structures across the country and building what they described as a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The ceremony was attended by the ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark; Chairman of the Registration Committee, Kashim Imam; Deputy Chairperson and Head of Digital Platform, Aisha Yesufu; and the National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, alongside other party officials and stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Mark said the membership drive marks the beginning of what he described as a foundational process toward the party’s electoral ambitions in 2027.

“What we are kicking off today is laying a solid foundation for our future success in the ADC,” he said. “Once you get the cards and start the registration exercise, register anyone who wants to be a member of the ADC and is willing to abide by our rules.”

He added that the party is open to all Nigerians who wish to join, expressing confidence that the ADC would form the next federal government after the 2027 elections.

In a keynote address titled “A Register of Conviction, Not Convenience,” Aregbesola cautioned against inflating membership figures for political optics. He said the party must avoid the common practice of populating registers with unverifiable or duplicate names.

“Across our political landscape, parties have become addicted to the illusion of size,” he said. “They inflate membership rolls with phantom names and duplicate entries to project a strength they do not possess. We must not follow that path.”

According to him, a credible and verifiable membership database is critical to building a functional political structure capable of winning elections and ensuring accountability.

“A party of ghosts cannot win elections. A party of ghosts cannot govern,” Aregbesola stated, adding that internal transparency and adherence to party rules would define the ADC’s approach.

He further emphasised the need for internal accountability, noting that party officials must submit to established structures and financial transparency.

“If we cannot govern our own party with integrity, what right do we have to ask Nigerians to trust us with their government?” he said.

Providing details of the registration process, Imam explained that the party adopted a hybrid system combining manual and digital platforms to ensure inclusivity.

He said the ADC opted for a web-based application rather than a standalone website or mobile app to reduce technical barriers and encourage wider participation.

“We want a platform where manual registration goes alongside online registration because internet penetration is still low in some areas. We do not want to disenfranchise anyone,” Imam said.

He disclosed that each state would initially receive 50,000 membership cards to commence registration, adding that cards would be issued strictly on demand to prevent hoarding or misuse.

On the digital component, Yesufu described the system as secure and efficient, stating that registration can be completed within minutes. She noted that the platform incorporates passport photographs, QR codes, and voter identification numbers for verification purposes.

According to her, the system was designed to reflect Nigeria’s demographic realities while ensuring data integrity and accessibility.

Earlier in January, the ADC Coalition Party appointed Imam as Chairman, Yesufu as Deputy Chairperson, and Dr. Sekonte Davies as Secretary of the Registration Committee, alongside several other members drawn from different states.

The party said the membership drive is expected to commence immediately nationwide, as it intensifies preparations ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
