ADC WELCOMES INEC 2027 ELECTION TIMETABLE, CALLS FOR REAL-TIME RESULTS TRANSPARENCY

Abuja, Nigeria – February 13, 2026 – The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has welcomed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) announcement of the timetable for the 2027 general elections, emphasizing that the credibility of the polls will depend on timely and transparent real-time results transmission.

In a statement on Friday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stressed that while the early release of the election timetable is commendable, transparency in electoral procedures is key to public confidence.

INEC had earlier outlined the schedule, setting party primaries between May 22 and June 20, 2026, for candidate nominations. The presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for February 20, 2027, while governorship and state assembly polls will take place on March 6, 2027.

Abdullahi called on INEC to clearly demonstrate measures to prevent manipulation and urged the National Assembly to enact a binding law to ensure unambiguous real-time electronic transmission of results.

He said, “We welcome the early release of the timetable, which provides political parties, stakeholders, and the electorate with the clarity needed for planning and democratic preparation. However, the credibility of the 2027 general elections will not be judged by the timetable alone, but by the commission’s commitment to transparency, technological integrity, and adherence to due process throughout the electoral cycle.”

The ADC highlighted the importance of real-time electronic transmission of results, noting that while INEC has affirmed its technological capacity, the current Electoral Act leaves discretion in critical areas that affect public confidence.

The party urged INEC to provide clear guidance on its readiness to implement real-time electronic transmission should legal amendments be enacted. It also recommended that the commission outline specific safeguards, both manual and electronic, to protect the integrity of results management and prevent irregularities seen in previous elections.

“Nigerians have repeatedly shown their readiness to defend the sanctity of their votes. What is required now is institutional clarity, operational transparency, and administrative excellence from the electoral umpire,” the statement concluded.
