MONARCHS, STAKEHOLDERS COMMEND AIYEDATIWA AS NEW ROAD PROJECTS BOOST ONDO INFRASTRUCTURE DRIVE
Traditional rulers and community leaders in Ondo State have commended Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for intensifying road construction and rehabilitation projects across the state as he marks one year in office.
The governor on Friday commissioned the Aiyegunle–Iwaro Oka Road in Oka-Akoko, alongside a cluster of road projects in Owo Local Government Area, describing infrastructure renewal as central to his administration’s development agenda.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremonies, Aiyedatiwa said the projects represent a major milestone in activities marking his first anniversary in office. He noted that since assuming office, his administration has initiated and completed several projects aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.
The governor explained that the approximately six-kilometre Aiyegunle–Iwaro Oka Road was constructed with durable materials to accommodate daily traffic, including heavy-duty vehicles. He described the corridor as a strategic transportation link in Akokoland, particularly for the movement of agricultural produce within and outside the state.
According to him, the agricultural potential of the area made the rehabilitation of the road imperative to ensure timely access to markets and preserve the economic value of farm produce. He also recalled that the dualisation of the Akungba–Ikare Road was flagged off last year as part of broader infrastructural expansion in the axis, expressing confidence that the project would be delivered within the approved timeframe.
In Owo, the governor commissioned Opomulero Road, Iselu Road and Isuada Road in a combined ceremony. He stated that the projects, covering about 3.5 kilometres within the town, include the construction and rehabilitation of Falodun Road, Kajola Road and Iselu–Isuada Road, enhancing connectivity, reducing travel time and stimulating commercial activities.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, Aiyedatiwa assured that development efforts would extend to all parts of the state. He said the government’s policy direction, under the OUR EASE agenda, prioritises fairness, equity and shared prosperity, with recorded strides in roads, healthcare, education, agriculture and commerce. He urged residents to safeguard public infrastructure and prevent vandalism.
Through his deputy, Dr Olayide Adelami, the governor also commissioned an upgraded Primary Health Care facility and newly constructed staff quarters in Owo Local Government Area. He said the project underscores the administration’s resolve to make healthcare accessible, affordable and sustainable at the grassroots level, adding that 112 PHCs across the state are undergoing structured upgrades, with 51 already completed.
The Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, said the commissioning ceremonies reflect the administration’s commitment to infrastructure transformation within its first year. The Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Ajaka, highlighted additional initiatives including transactional ambulances and solar-powered water systems for health centres.
In separate remarks, the Yusuf Adebori Adeleye, the Olubaka of Oka, congratulated the governor on his first year in office and described the completion of the Aiyegunle–Iwaro Oka Road as a significant achievement, noting that previous administrations had been unable to complete the project originally initiated during the tenure of Olusegun Agagu.
Similarly, the Ajibade Ogunoye, the Olowo of Owo, commended the governor for improvements in road infrastructure and solar lighting in the area, stating that the developments have positively impacted economic activities.
Other dignitaries present at the events included the Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami; Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji; members of the State Executive Council; lawmakers; traditional and religious leaders, among others.
