AKOKO POLITICAL LEGACY CONTINUES AS SMART OMODUNBI JR. DECLARES READINESS FOR APC LEADERSHIP IN ONDO

A Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Ondo State on Political Matters, Mr. Smart Omodunbi Jr., has reaffirmed his readiness to assume greater responsibility within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, drawing inspiration from a long-standing family legacy of public service and principled politics.

Omodunbi Jr. traced his political roots to his late father, Honourable Barrister Smart Omodunbi, who played a historic role in the early years of local government administration in the old Ondo State.

According to him, his father emerged as the first democratically elected Executive Chairman of the old Akoko South Local Government at the inception of the state, a local government area that has since been restructured into Akoko South East and Akoko South West Local Government Areas.

He further recalled that following his father’s service at the local government level, and with the constitutional establishment of the House of Assembly, the late Omodunbi became one of the pioneer members of the old Ondo State House of Assembly.

He served under the leadership of the late former governor, Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin, and was a committed political disciple of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, whose progressive ideology shaped governance in the old Western Region.

Referencing a historic photograph in which his late father appeared alongside Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Omodunbi Jr. described the image as a symbol of a political lineage anchored on discipline, integrity, and selfless service to the people.

Speaking on his personal political journey, Omodunbi Jr. stated that he is prepared to build upon this legacy, citing his experience, understanding of Ondo State’s political landscape, and familiarity with party administration as key strengths. He noted that his years of involvement in party affairs have equipped him with a solid grasp of internal structures, coordination, and strategic management required for effective leadership.

Omodunbi Jr. expressed confidence that, if entrusted with the position of Chairman of the APC in Ondo State, he would promote unity and growth through effective harmonisation across party structures at ward, local government, and state levels. He also pledged firm loyalty and institutional support to the leader of the party in the state, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, whom he described as central to the party’s stability and progress.

Emphasising personal integrity, he noted that his family name remains a sacred inheritance from his late father, which he is committed to protecting.

He added that his sense of responsibility is further reinforced by his family values and determination to leave behind a record of honour, accountability, and service.

By experience, political pedigree, and conviction, Omodunbi Jr. maintained that he possesses the qualifications required to be entrusted with higher party leadership responsibilities, assuring stakeholders that he would uphold ethical leadership and collective progress if given the opportunity.
