APC OPENS DOOR TO KWANKWASO AMID KANO POLITICAL REALIGNMENTS
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said the ruling party remains open to welcoming former Kano State governor and ex–presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, should he decide to defect.
Yilwatda made the statement amid ongoing political realignments in Kano State, which have sparked renewed speculation about Kwankwaso’s political future.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV on Sunday, the APC chairman said there were currently no formal negotiations between the party and Kwankwaso but stressed that the party would receive him warmly if he chose to join.
According to him, the APC maintains an inclusive posture and remains open to political leaders willing to align with its ideals.
The remarks come in the wake of recent defections in Kano State, including the defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the NNPP to the APC, alongside several members of the Kano State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.
Yilwatda noted that the developments reflect shifting political dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly in the North-West.
In the same interview, the APC chairman defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s frequent foreign travels, describing them as strategic engagements undertaken in Nigeria’s national interest.
He argued that the President’s global exposure, experience, and international networks enable him to attract investments, strengthen diplomatic ties, and address security and economic challenges more efficiently.
According to Yilwatda, Tinubu’s trips should be viewed as sacrifices aimed at securing long-term benefits for the country rather than as routine travel.
He maintained that the administration remains focused on delivering economic growth, improved security, and international partnerships capable of supporting national development.
