Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has called on residents to emulate the sacrifice, discipline, and commitment of the state’s founding fathers as the state marks its 50th anniversary.
The governor made the appeal on Tuesday during a statewide broadcast commemorating the Golden Jubilee of Bauchi State’s creation. He emphasized that the state’s progress in the 21st century depends on the quality of leadership and the sense of responsibility demonstrated by its citizens.
Governor Mohammed reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to laying enduring foundations for development, aligning with his Economic Blueprint, My Bauchi Project, and the state’s broader Development Agenda.
“As a government, we remain committed to building solid foundations that will outlive all of us,” the governor said, adding that the initiatives under his administration aim to create sustainable growth and prosperity.
He congratulated residents for reaching this historic milestone and thanked individuals and groups who contributed to the celebrations, describing the anniversary as a defining moment in Bauchi’s history.
“The attainment of fifty years of existence by Bauchi State, out of which Gombe State was created in 1996, is a profound cause for joy and thanksgiving to Almighty God. Despite political, economic, and social challenges, Bauchi State has endured and progressed,” he said.
Governor Mohammed also highlighted the contributions of the founding fathers and past leaders, whose vision and sacrifices laid the foundation for governance, unity, and development. He paid tribute to the first military governor, Col. Muhammad Bello Kaliel, the first democratically elected governor, Alhaji Abubakar Tatari Ali, and other successive leaders who have governed the state.
He further acknowledged the late Head of State, Gen. Murtala Ramat Mohammed, who created Bauchi State on February 3, 1976, along with six other states carved out of the former North-East State.
The governor encouraged citizens to uphold the legacy of Bauchi’s founders by demonstrating responsibility, civic duty, and dedication to the state’s collective progress.
