CULTISTS BEHEAD YOUTH PRESIDENT, KILL AIDE IN RIVERS STATE

Gunmen suspected to be cultists have brutally killed the President of the Omoku Youth Federation, Ifeanyi Azuazu, and shot his personal aide, Chigozie Oluwu, in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The attack occurred around 6 pm on Thursday when about seven armed assailants stormed a popular drinking spot on Ogolo Street, off Palace Road in Omoku town. Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen arrived in two vehicles, confronted the youth president, and forced him into a car.

Chigozie Oluwu attempted to intervene and was immediately shot dead. The attackers then abducted Azuazu and drove him to an unknown location.

Residents and passersby fled in panic as the incident unfolded, and business owners hurriedly closed their shops. A video circulating online showed local youths assisting security personnel in placing Oluwu’s body into a patrol van.

The following day, a local vigilante group discovered Azuazu’s headless body in a bush, confirming the severity of the attack.

The Omoku Local Government Area Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC) confirmed the killings. OSPAC’s Public Relations Officer, Godnews Nkem, said, “Chigozie was shot dead by the gunmen before they abducted Ifeanyi Azuazu. Based on intelligence and OSPAC security operations, we recovered the lifeless and headless body of Azuazu.”

The Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, described the incident as cult-related and confirmed that the Commissioner of Police has ordered a full-scale investigation to apprehend the perpetrators.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm while security agencies, including the police and Department of State Services (DSS), conduct investigations.

The attack has intensified concerns over cult-related violence in the state and highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by youth and community leaders in Rivers State.
