GHANA POLICE BUST PROSTITUTION RING, ARREST 12 NIGERIANS AND OTHERS
Authorities in Ghana’s Eastern Region have dismantled a prostitution and human trafficking network, arresting 13 suspected sex workers, including 12 Nigerians and one Ghanaian, during a targeted police operation in Koforidua.
The New Juaben South Municipal Police Command led the raid on February 10, 2026, following a complaint by a 30-year-old Nigerian woman who reported being trafficked from Nigeria for prostitution. She alleged that she was forced to meet a daily earnings quota of 400 Ghana cedis, but managed only 250 cedis, prompting physical assault by her trafficker and the trafficker’s accomplice.
Superintendent Ransford Nsiah, the Municipal Police Commander, said the operation extended to a suspected brothel in the Dabiasem area, resulting in the arrest of additional suspects, including a landlord who provided accommodation for the illegal activities and a bouncer linked to the network. Condoms were reportedly recovered at the site.
“Altogether, about 15 individuals, aged between 15 and 32, are now in police custody,” Superintendent Nsiah stated. “The minor among them has been separated for protection under the care of the Department of Social Welfare.”
Assistant Superintendent of Police Augustine Kusi Asante warned property owners against facilitating illegal activities, noting that Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act criminalises brothel operations, human trafficking, and prostitution, with penalties including fines and imprisonment.
Police confirmed that investigations are ongoing as part of broader efforts to curb human trafficking and protect vulnerable persons in the region.
