OLUBADAN WARNS AGAINST OPEN CATTLE GRAZING IN IBADANLAND
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has issued a firm warning against open cattle grazing within Ibadanland, stressing that the practice is illegal and will no longer be tolerated.
The paramount ruler expressed his position on Monday during a meeting with members of the Olubadan-in-Council and executives of the Ijaye Farm Settlers Association at the Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Gbenga Ayoade, Oba Ladoja stated that open cattle grazing contravenes existing state laws and is prohibited not only in Ibadanland but across Oyo State.
The Olubadan warned cattle rearers to desist from the practice, noting that defaulters would face arrest and prosecution in accordance with the law.
He further urged traditional leaders, including Mogajis, Baales, and other title holders, to remain vigilant within their domains and work closely with security agencies to safeguard lives and property, warning that negligence could attract sanctions from the palace.
The monarch also called on residents to promptly report suspicious activities, including the presence of criminal elements, to law enforcement agencies to enable swift intervention.
Earlier at the meeting, the Chairman of the Ijaye Farm Settlers Association, David Olatunji, raised concerns over repeated attacks on farmers and destruction of farmlands, which he said have negatively affected agricultural productivity and livelihoods in the area.
Olatunji lamented that despite several reports to security agencies, alleged perpetrators had not been apprehended, and appealed to the Olubadan and the Oyo State Government for enhanced security and protection for farming communities.
The meeting was attended by senior traditional rulers, including the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola; Otun Balogun, Oba Kolawole Adegbola; Osi Olubadan, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi; Osi Balogun, Oba Olubunmi Isioye; Ashipa Olubadan, Oba Amidu Ajibade; Ashipa Balogun, Oba Dauda Azees; Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Muritala Akande; and Ekerin Balogun, Oba Akeem Adewoyin.
