POLICE ARREST TWO SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS, RECOVER FIREARM IN ONDO COMMUNITY
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers in Ayede community, Akure North Local Government Area, as part of ongoing efforts to combat violent crimes in the state.
The suspects, identified as Okotie and Michael, were apprehended during a targeted operation carried out by operatives of the Tactical Intelligence Response Squad on February 12, 2026, at about 9:48 a.m., following credible intelligence.
This development comes after an earlier attack on Ayede community in which gunmen abducted a pregnant woman, Mrs Mary Jesulayomi. She was later released after an undisclosed ransom was reportedly paid.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command said a search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of one single-barrel rifle and 18 live cartridges allegedly concealed in their possession.
According to the statement, the operation took place in Odo Ala, Ayede Town, and forms part of the command’s intelligence-driven strategy aimed at safeguarding lives and property across Ondo State.
The police said the suspects are currently in custody and have made statements that are assisting investigators in efforts to apprehend other members of the group and determine the full scope of their alleged criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, emphasised the importance of intelligence-led operations in tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes. He commended the operatives involved for their professionalism and swift response.
The command reiterated its commitment to sustaining security operations and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to law enforcement agencies.
