ONDO POLICE ARREST FOUR SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS OVER DEADLY ILU-ABO ATTACK

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate linked to the recent violent attack in the Ilu-Abo area of the state, marking a major breakthrough in ongoing security operations against violent crime.

The arrests followed intelligence-driven investigations launched after an attack on January 25, 2026, at Liberty Avenue, Ilu-Abo, where armed assailants reportedly shot one resident, abducted another, and injured two others. The incident triggered heightened security deployments across the Ala–Ilu-Abo axis.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, operatives made progress on January 29, 2026, after members of the Ilu-Abo community apprehended a suspect identified as Abenaguna Muhammad. The suspect was found in possession of charms suspected to be used for criminal activities and was immediately handed over to police authorities for investigation.

During interrogation, police said the suspect confessed to being part of a kidnapping syndicate operating along the Ala–Ilu-Abo corridor and admitted involvement in the January 25 attack. He further identified the leader of the group as Lanre, popularly known as “Lanre Tomato,” alongside two other alleged accomplices identified as Ojo and Pius, both males.

Following the confession, police operatives tracked and arrested the remaining suspects through coordinated intelligence operations. All four suspects are currently in police custody, while investigations continue to recover weapons and other exhibits, identify additional accomplices, and establish the full scope of the syndicate’s activities.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended residents of the Ilu-Abo community for their vigilance and cooperation, describing their actions as a practical example of effective community policing. He noted that timely information from residents played a key role in exposing the suspects and disrupting criminal operations in the area.

CP Lawal also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state through proactive policing, intelligence gathering, and sustained collaboration with other security agencies, including non-conventional security outfits.

He further urged residents to continue supporting security efforts by providing credible information, strengthening structured vigilante services, and maintaining close cooperation with law enforcement agencies.

The Ondo State Police Command assured the public that all suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law upon the conclusion of investigations.
