DSS ARRAIGNS FORMER AGF MALAMI, SON OVER ALLEGED FIREARMS, TERRORISM-RELATED OFFENCES
The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned a former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), alongside his son, Abdulazeez Malami, before the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged terrorism-related offences and unlawful possession of firearms.
The defendants were brought before Justice Joyce Abdumalik on Tuesday on a five-count charge, according to reports monitored from court proceedings.
The charges, as presented by the prosecution, reportedly include allegations bordering on terrorism financing and illegal possession of firearms. The DSS maintained that the alleged offences contravene relevant provisions of Nigeria’s security and firearms laws.
Both defendants are yet to enter a plea as court proceedings were ongoing at the time of filing this report.
The court is expected to fix dates for plea-taking and possible bail applications once preliminary processes are concluded.
Neither Abubakar Malami nor his legal representatives have publicly commented on the charges as of press time.
More details are expected to emerge as the case progresses.
