EKITI 2026: PDP CAMPAIGN GROUP VOWS TO DEFEAT OYEBANJI, OTHER CONTENDERS
PDP CAMPAIGN GROUP VOWS TO DEFEAT OYEBANJI, OTHER CONTENDERS
The campaign organisation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the June 20, 2026, Ekiti State election, Dr. Wole Oluyede, has expressed confidence that the party will overcome all obstacles and emerge victorious.
Other contenders in the race include incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), former Nigerian High Commissioner to Canada Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and oil and gas magnate Dr. Olusegun Osinkolu of the Young People’s Party (YPP).
Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, Director-General of the Wole Oluyede Campaign Council, stated that Oluyede is prepared to confront “all obstacles placed in his path by political opponents and vested interests determined to maintain APC’s hold on power.”
In a statement made available by the campaign’s Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, Ogundipe highlighted that despite attempts by certain political actors to derail Oluyede’s campaign, the PDP candidate remains focused on reclaiming the governorship for the benefit of Ekiti residents.
“Dr. Oluyede convincingly won the PDP primary election. Although that victory was challenged by an aggrieved aspirant and subsequently nullified by a lower court, our candidate will ultimately prevail. The PDP has filed for a stay of execution of the judgment and has lodged an appeal to ensure the campaign proceeds without hindrance,” he added.
Ogundipe dismissed claims that the PDP was incapable of contesting the election, describing them as premature. “These setbacks are temporary. After a dark night comes a glorious dawn. Neither Oluyede nor the PDP can be stopped,” he said.
He described the June 20 governorship election as a direct contest between the people of Ekiti, represented by Oluyede, and the incumbent governor. PDP supporters were urged to remain steadfast, prayerful, and united.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had initially excluded Oluyede’s name from the list of cleared candidates following a Federal High Court ruling nullifying the PDP primary. However, Oluyede and the PDP have appealed and requested INEC to include him on the ballot, expressing confidence in his eventual victory.
The PDP has accused the APC and Governor Oyebanji of attempting to eliminate opposition candidates, a claim repeatedly denied by APC State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Segun Dipe, who emphasized that the party seeks fair participation for all candidates.
