FG FLAGS OFF FREE FINANCIAL INCLUSION TRAINING FOR 10 MILLION NIGERIANS

The Federal Government of Nigeria has flagged off a free nationwide training programme for 10 million Nigerians on financial inclusion and financial literacy, as part of efforts to deepen economic participation and improve access to financial knowledge across the country.

The programme, which was launched on Monday, is being implemented by the Office of the Vice President through the Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion (PreCEFI), chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

According to officials, the initiative is designed to equip Nigerians—particularly women and youths—with essential financial management skills, investment knowledge, and digital competencies required for sustainable wealth creation and participation in the evolving digital economy.

As part of the rollout, the Office of the Vice President, through PreCEFI, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with six professional bodies to jointly design and deliver structured training programmes, certification pathways, digital skills initiatives, and mentorship platforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s financial and enterprise workforce.

The professional bodies involved in the collaboration are the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS), National Institute of Credit Administration (NICA), Chartered Risk Management Institute (CRMI), and the Nigeria Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (NIIE).

Government officials noted that the partnership is expected to improve financial literacy, promote responsible financial behaviour, and support small businesses and entrepreneurs, while advancing national goals on economic inclusion and capacity development.

The training programme forms part of broader policy efforts to enhance financial inclusion and empower Nigerians with practical skills needed to engage productively in the formal economy.
