FG Hands Over 80-Bed Maternity Clinics to Gombe State to Reduce Maternal Deaths
The Federal Government, through the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), has officially handed over two newly constructed 40-bed maternity centres and a central medical store to the Gombe State Government as part of ongoing efforts to tackle maternal mortality in the state.
The maternity centres, located in Bogo (Akko Local Government Area) and Billiri Local Government Area, are fully equipped with delivery rooms, antenatal and postnatal wards, theatres, preparatory rooms, and dispensaries.
Government urges optimal use
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari-Ahmadu, urged state authorities and beneficiaries to ensure the facilities are effectively utilized.
“These projects align with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to improving the well-being of mothers, children, and residents. I call on beneficiaries to make full use of these facilities and ensure proper maintenance and operation,” he said.
Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, represented by his deputy, Manassah Jatau, assured that the state government would properly maintain the facilities.
“We will maintain this facility because it will help reduce maternal mortality in the state,” he said.
Central medical store completed
Mohammed Goni Alkali, Managing Director of NEDC, commended the Gombe State Government for its cooperation in completing the central medical store, which includes a cold room, offloading bay, sorting areas, and administrative offices.
Maigari-Ahmadu added that the projects would significantly improve healthcare delivery and enhance the overall well-being of residents.
“I inaugurate this project for the benefit of humanity,” he said, highlighting the importance of functional healthcare infrastructure in saving lives and supporting community development.
