The Federal Government has launched a nationwide free training programme for 10 million Nigerians aimed at promoting financial inclusion and literacy, with a special focus on women and youth.
The initiative is spearheaded by the Office of the Vice President through the Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion (PreCEFI), chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima. The programme is designed to equip participants with essential financial skills, investment knowledge, and digital competencies to support sustainable wealth creation and economic empowerment.
As part of the rollout, the Vice-President’s office signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with six professional bodies, including:
Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN)
Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN)
Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS)
National Institute of Credit Administration (NICA)
Chartered Risk Management Institute (CRMI)
Nigerian Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (NIIE)
The MoU establishes a framework for joint training programmes, mentorship platforms, digital skills initiatives, and certification pathways, aligning professional standards with national inclusion goals.
Vice President Shettima described the initiative as a strategic national investment in human and institutional capacity, emphasizing that financial inclusion goes beyond access, requiring competence, trust, and ethical grounding.
“This programme prioritises women and youth inclusion and digital transformation. Nigeria’s demographic dividend will only materialise if young people are equipped with relevant skills for a rapidly evolving digital economy,” Shettima said, adding that the training is a living platform for execution, not a mere document.
The President of ICAN, Malam Haruna Yahaya, praised the Federal Government for its bold economic reforms, describing the programme as an opportunity to translate policy gains into practical skills development.
Technical partners, including WAWU Africa, assured readiness to provide digital platforms and enabling environments to ensure the programme’s success. Dr. Nurudeen Zauro, Technical Adviser to the President on Economic and Financial Inclusion, highlighted that inclusion requires skills, institutional capacity, and professional support, not just infrastructure.
The launch event concluded with the signing of the MoU, marking the official start of the free nationwide training initiative.
