GOVERNOR AIYEDATIWA DISTANCES SELF FROM APC WARD CONGRESS DISPUTES, ORDERS SECURITY CRACKDOWN ON VIOLENCE

The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has distanced himself from the pockets of unrest recorded during the ward congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in parts of the state, affirming that the incidents were not connected to his office.

In a statement issued on February 20, 2026, by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the governor reiterated his commitment to inclusive leadership and internal party cohesion.

According to the statement, Governor Aiyedatiwa remains the leader of the APC in the state and has consistently provided leadership that accommodates all tendencies and interest groups within the party since assuming office.

The governor was described as the first in the history of the state to institutionalize quarterly stakeholders’ engagement meetings involving party leaders across the 18 local government areas, with about 60 leaders participating per council area. The initiative, the statement noted, has strengthened unity and fostered a greater sense of belonging among party members statewide.

Addressing the recent disturbances linked to the ward congress, the governor clarified that the isolated issues reported were not instigated by him or his administration. He emphasized that he had, in fact, directed security agencies to restore order at the party secretariat in Akure following reports of tension earlier in the week.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also ordered security agencies to investigate the crisis that reportedly occurred in Idanre and ensure that individuals found culpable are brought to justice in accordance with the law.

While acknowledging the competitive nature of party congresses, the governor urged all aspirants vying for party positions to prevail on their supporters to maintain peace and refrain from acts that could disrupt public order.

He stressed that his administration would not tolerate any breakdown of law and order in any part of the state, warning that those who engage in violence or sponsor unrest would face the full weight of the law.

The statement concluded with a call for calm among party members and reaffirmed the governor’s commitment to ensuring a peaceful and credible internal democratic process within the APC in Ondo State.
