HON. JANET FEBISOLA ADEYEMI SPOTLIGHTS NIGERIA's MINERAL POTENTIAL AT 2026 AFRICAN MINING INDABA

Hon. Janet Febisola Adeyemi was in Cape Town, South Africa, on Monday, February 9, 2026, where she participated in the 2026 Mining Indaba, Africa’s largest and most influential mining investment conference, as discussions on mineral resources and sustainable extraction took centre stage across the continent.

The annual Mining Indaba, holding from February 8 to 12, 2026, convenes government officials, policymakers, investors, industry leaders, and development partners across the world  to deliberate on Africa’s mineral wealth, regulatory frameworks, and strategies for inclusive economic growth.

The conference formally opened with remarks by South Africa’s Honourable Minister for Minerals and Petroleum Resources, Gwede Mantashe, who underscored the importance of responsible mining, regional cooperation, and value addition in positioning Africa as a competitive global mining destination.

Hon. Adeyemi’s presence at the high-level forum reflects her growing engagement with policy-driven economic development, particularly in sectors capable of driving employment, revenue generation, and infrastructure growth. Sources close to her engagements at the Indaba note that discussions centred on best practices in mining governance, community participation,  the role of legislators in strengthening regulatory oversight and gender inclusion.

Ondo State, especially the Ondo South Senatorial District, is widely recognised for its vast but underutilised mineral resources, making participation in global conversations on mining and natural resource governance increasingly relevant. Observers say Hon. Adeyemi’s exposure to international policy dialogues aligns with her long-term interest in promoting structured development and sustainable resource utilisation in the district.

Political analysts view her participations in the Mining Indaba  and similar international conferences as a seasoned professional  is part of the advantanges which makes her a suitable replacement to our very brilliant Senator Ibrahim Jimoh for the Ondo South Senatorial seat, where economic diversification, investment attraction, and responsible exploitation of natural resources are expected to feature prominently in policy debates.

While Hon. Adeyemi has continued to maintain a focus on capacity building and stakeholder engagement, her involvement in continental platforms such as the Mining Indaba is seen as strengthening her profile as a public figure with both local insight and international exposure.
