ISWAP NAMES ABU KHALIFA AS NEW COMMANDER IN TIMBUKTU TRIANGLE
The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has appointed Abu Khalifa as its new commander in the Timbuktu Triangle, following the death of its former leader, Julaibib, during a military operation by Nigerian troops.
Security sources confirmed that Julaibib was neutralized by Operation HADIN KAI forces in the Kimba axis of Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State. His death prompted an internal restructuring within ISWAP, leading to Abu Khalifa’s elevation.
“Intelligence revealed that Abu Khalifa has been named as the new ISWAP commander in the Timbuktu Triangle to replace Julaibib,” a security source said on Monday.
The sources also noted that no official second-in-command has yet been appointed, though a figure known as Tuja is reportedly being considered for the deputy role.
This leadership change occurs as Operation HADIN KAI troops continue sustained offensives against ISWAP and Boko Haram strongholds across the southern Borno axis, aiming to disrupt the groups’ activities and restore security in affected areas.
