AIYEDATIWA MARKS FIRST ANNIVERSARY WITH COMMISSIONING OF ROADS, WATER PROJECTS IN AKURE
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Thursday commissioned multiple road and water projects across Akure metropolis as part of activities marking the first anniversary of his administration.
The governor inaugurated key road projects including Igoba Township Road and Alagbaka Extension Road, describing the occasion as symbolic and reflective of his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development.
Speaking during the commissioning, Aiyedatiwa said the projects were designed to connect communities, ease transportation challenges, and stimulate economic activities.
“These projects are critical infrastructure initiatives that connect communities, facilitate commerce and reflect our commitment to delivering the dividends of good governance,” he said.
Other completed roads include Gbangbalogun–Odole–Odiolowo Road, Lao–Oke Padre–Odopetu Road, Eco Bank–Oke Arata Road, Ajegunle Road, Oja Oshodi Road, SK Bright Street, Ayeloro Street and Igoba Road.
The governor described Igoba Road as a strategic link supporting trade and socio-economic development in one of the fastest-growing communities in Akure. He added that the projects align with his administration’s OUR EASE policy framework aimed at growth, job creation, improved living conditions and inclusive development.
At the commissioning of the Alagbaka Extension Road, Aiyedatiwa said the project would improve connectivity within the Alagbaka axis, reduce traffic congestion, and provide alternative access to Akure Airport. He noted that the road was executed in line with standard engineering specifications, including proper drainage and durable pavement structure.
In addition to road projects, the governor commissioned the Omi Irorun O’Datiwa Water Scheme at the Federal University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Akure. Represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, he stated that although the hospital had been transferred to the Federal Government, the state government executed the project under its own budget to improve healthcare delivery.
According to the Commissioner for Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene, Ayodele Akande, the scheme features a one-cubic-metre tank mounted on a 12-metre extension, a 2.2-kilometre distribution network, and a 10.2kW hybrid solar-powered system capable of discharging 15 cubic metres of groundwater per hour. The facility is expected to supply 150 cubic metres of clean water daily to approximately 6,000 residents.
Akande added that within one year, over 50 boreholes have been constructed across the state and several earth dams rehabilitated, improving access to potable water for more than one million residents.
The Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr Abiola Olawoye, said the administration had fulfilled its promise to prioritise road infrastructure, noting that several other projects are ongoing, including Oke-T Road (10km), Okitipupa–Igbokoda Road (24km), Imafo Road (9.5km), and Akungba Road (6.7km).
Community leaders commended the governor for the projects. The Obaloogun of Igoba, Oba John Adeniyi Adinlewa, expressed appreciation for the fulfilment of earlier advocacy for the Igoba Road project, while the Chairman of Alagbaka Extension Landlords Association, Fred Ojo, described the development as transformative for residents.
The governor also commissioned Adegbola Health Centre in Akure and Surulere Health Centre in Ondo town as part of the anniversary activities.
