CAF CONFIRMS AFCON 2027 WILL PROCEED AS PLANNED IN KENYA, TANZANIA, UGANDA

The Confederation of African Football has reaffirmed that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will take place as scheduled in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, dismissing reports suggesting a possible postponement.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe made the clarification on Friday following a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee, stating that the continental football body remains fully committed to hosting the tournament in East Africa.

“We have done a lot to ensure AFCON is held in East Africa, and our commitment remains to host it there,” Motsepe said. “I believe we will hold a very successful AFCON among the three countries. CAF will work closely with the host nations to ensure every aspect of the tournament — from infrastructure to logistics — meets the highest standards.”

The 2027 tournament will mark a historic milestone as the first edition of the Africa Cup of Nations to be jointly hosted by three countries. CAF has indicated that the competition is expected to take place in June and July, although official dates are yet to be announced.

The timing would place the tournament shortly before Kenya’s general elections scheduled for August 2027.

CAF also stated that preparations in the three host nations are being closely monitored, including stadium renovations, training facilities, and transportation infrastructure, to ensure compliance with international standards.

East Africa last hosted the Africa Cup of Nations in 1976, when Ethiopia staged the tournament.

With CAF’s latest assurance, attention now shifts to the pace of infrastructure development and coordination among the three host countries as they prepare to deliver what would be a landmark edition of Africa’s premier football competition.
