GUINNESS WORLD RECORD HOLDER LAUNCHES NATIONWIDE YOUTH SKILLS EMPOWERMENT DRIVE
Fresh from setting a new milestone in professional barbing, Nigerian barber Joshua Babatunde Aiyenuro, popularly known as T-Jos Signature, has unveiled a nationwide youth empowerment programme aimed at addressing unemployment and social challenges through vocational training.
Aiyenuro recently earned recognition from the Guinness World Records for completing a 154-hour professional barbing marathon. The feat was achieved on February 2, 2026, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
In a statement released by the African Civil Society Forum, the initiative is designed to equip young Nigerians with practical vocational skills in professional barbing, hairdressing, and tailoring.
According to the organisers, the programme aims to train 1,000 youths in each state of the federation. Participants will receive hands-on training, tools, and starter packs to support them in establishing sustainable businesses upon completion.
The initiative is expected to be implemented in collaboration with state governments, private sector stakeholders, and philanthropic organisations to ensure wide coverage and long-term sustainability.
Speaking on the motivation behind the programme, Aiyenuro described his world record achievement as more than a personal milestone, noting that it provides a platform to highlight the value of skilled trades and promote self-reliance among young people.
He emphasised that vocational careers offer viable pathways to economic independence and can contribute meaningfully to national development.
With the launch of the empowerment drive, Aiyenuro said his focus has shifted toward creating opportunities that will enable thousands of young Nigerians to build productive livelihoods and reduce exposure to crime and social vulnerability.
The programme is expected to roll out in phases across the country, with further details on registration and participation guidelines to be announced by the organisers.
