NURTW CHAIR DISTANCES SELF FROM ATTACK ON ONDO APC CHAIRMAN, CONDEMNS VIOLENCE IN AKURE

The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ondo State, Comrade Odudu Emmanuel Ademola, has denied allegations linking him to the reported assault on the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ade Adetimehin, and other party members at the party’s secretariat in Akure.

In a statement issued on Wednesday through the union’s media office, Odudu described claims that he orchestrated the disruption of the APC stakeholders’ meeting held on February 17 as false and misleading.

The meeting, which took place at the APC state secretariat in Akure, was reportedly disrupted by violence, leading to injuries and heightened tension among party members.

Odudu clarified that he attended the gathering strictly in his capacity as a party stakeholder. According to him, he met supporters of various aspirants engaged in a heated disagreement, stressing that the situation was an internal party matter and had no connection with the transport union.

The NURTW chairman maintained that neither he nor any official of the union participated in the violence. He stated that he made efforts to calm tensions before security agencies intervened.

He further noted that operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) were present at the venue and subsequently restored order.

While distancing himself from the incident, Odudu condemned the attack on Adetimehin and other stakeholders, describing the development as unfortunate and unacceptable.

He also urged members of the public to verify sensitive information before circulating it, warning that unsubstantiated reports could misinform citizens and escalate political tension in the state.

The incident is part of a series of disruptions linked to internal political activities within the Ondo State chapter of the APC ahead of its ongoing party processes.
