ONDO POLICE ARREST 52-YEAR-OLD MAN OVER ALLEGED ₦55 MILLION FRAUD, RECOVER TIPPER TRUCK IN AKURE
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 52-year-old man, identified as Eniaye Olorunfemi, over an alleged case of obtaining ₦55 million by conversion from a cooperative society in Akure, the state capital.
The arrest, carried out on January 30, 2026, followed a petition submitted to the command by Igbeyinadun Multipurpose Cooperative Society, which accused the suspect of diverting funds entrusted to him for a business transaction.
According to police authorities, the suspect allegedly collected the sum in June 2025 under the pretext of purchasing a tipper truck on behalf of the cooperative society. Investigations revealed that after taking possession of the truck, the suspect reportedly failed to remit it to the society and subsequently cut off communication, prompting the petition to law enforcement authorities.
Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Section of the Ondo State Police Command, acting on credible intelligence, tracked down and arrested the suspect. The tipper truck was recovered during the operation and has since been returned to the cooperative society.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is said to have made useful statements to investigators. Police authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, cautioned cooperative societies and members of the public to exercise due diligence in financial dealings. He stressed the importance of proper background checks and verification processes before entering into business arrangements to prevent fraud and financial losses.
The police commissioner also urged residents to promptly report suspicious transactions or activities to security agencies, noting that early reporting enhances effective investigation and timely intervention.
