 ONDO POLICE ARREST SUSPECT OVER ALLEGED DEFILEMENT OF 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL


The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man in connection with the alleged defilement of a 13-year-old girl in Asio community, Ile Oluji/Oke Igbo Local Government Area of the state.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who disclosed that the suspect, identified as James Osita, is currently in police custody while investigations continue.

According to the police, a report was made at a divisional police station on February 5, 2026, by a male complainant who alleged that the minor was sexually abused earlier that day at about 4:00 p.m. in the agrarian community.

Following the report, police operatives promptly intervened, rescued the victim, and ensured she was taken for medical examination. The suspect was immediately apprehended and is said to have made statements that are aiding the investigation.

DSP Jimoh further stated that preliminary findings indicate the victim alleged that the suspect had committed similar acts against her on previous occasions before the most recent incident.

“The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” the police spokesperson said.

The Ondo State Police Command commended members of the public for their timely reporting of the incident and urged residents to remain vigilant. The command also encouraged citizens to continue providing credible and actionable information to security agencies to enable swift response and justice delivery.

Incidents involving alleged sexual abuse of minors have continued to draw concern nationwide, with law enforcement authorities reiterating the need for community vigilance and prompt reporting to protect vulnerable persons.
