OUTRAGE AS TWO NIGERIANS REPORTEDLY KILLED WHILE FIGHTING FOR RUSSIA IN UKRAINE

Reactions have emerged following reports that two Nigerian nationals were found dead in eastern Ukraine while allegedly serving in the Russian military amid the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

According to statements attributed to Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence and cited by international media, the deceased — identified as Hamzat Kolawole and Mbah Udoka — were said to have been members of the 423rd Guards Motor Rifle Regiment of the armed forces of the Russian Federation.

Ukrainian authorities reportedly stated that the bodies were discovered in the Luhansk area of the Donbas region following a drone strike. The intelligence agency further claimed that both men had signed contracts with the Russian military in 2025 — Kolawole on August 29 and Udoka on September 28.

In a statement, the Ukrainian intelligence body alleged that the two Nigerians were killed in late November during an attempt to advance on Ukrainian positions in the Luhansk region. It claimed they were eliminated by a drone strike before engaging in direct combat. As of press time, there was no immediate confirmation from Russian officials regarding the claims.

The development has sparked conversations on social media in Nigeria, with some users expressing concern over reports that foreign nationals are being recruited into the conflict. Others linked the situation to economic pressures that push individuals to seek employment opportunities abroad, including in high-risk environments.

The war between Russia and Ukraine, which began in 2022, has drawn international attention and continues to have global political and humanitarian implications.

Nigerian authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the reported deaths.
