POLICE ARREST 13 SUSPECTS OVER DEADLY IDANRE ATTACK IN MAJOR SECURITY SWEEP

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested 13 suspects in connection with the violent attack that occurred in Idanre on February 18, 2026, resulting in the loss of two lives and injuries to three others.

In a press statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Command described the arrests as a significant breakthrough in its ongoing investigation into the incident.

The operation was reportedly ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, as part of intensified efforts to ensure that all individuals linked to the violence are identified and brought to justice.

According to the statement, the earlier attack led to fatalities, injuries, and destruction of property, prompting the Commissioner to direct an intelligence-driven manhunt targeting all suspected perpetrators.

Acting on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance, operatives of the Idanre Division carried out coordinated operations at strategic locations, leading to the arrest of the suspects. Police said those arrested are currently in custody and have made statements said to be aiding ongoing investigations.

The Command added that investigations are continuing to determine the specific roles played by each suspect and to identify any additional collaborators connected to the attack.

CP Lawal reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that those responsible for the incident face the full weight of the law. He also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for what he described as strategic leadership and operational support to strengthen security operations in the state.

The Police warned individuals or groups against engaging in acts capable of disturbing public peace, stressing that the Command is prepared to deploy its operational resources to address security threats decisively.

Residents of Idanre and other parts of Ondo State were urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to support ongoing investigations.

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
