THREE POLICE OFFICERS DISMISSED FOR KIDNAPPING, ARMED ROBBERY IN IMO STATE
The Imo
State Police Command has dismissed three of its operatives following allegations of kidnapping, armed robbery, and car snatching, police confirmed on Friday. The dismissed officers—ex-Sgt Gift Ekwueme, ex-Sgt Ikechukwu Eto, and ex-Cpr Divine Okwuaru—are currently detained at the Imo State Police Headquarters and are set to be arraigned in court.
The trio were found guilty after an orderly room trial, according to the state police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye. The officers were accused of abducting and extorting Obinna Egbu in Owerri on February 8, 2026, at gunpoint of ₦1.7 million, while allegedly posing as members of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit alongside a civilian driver, Alex Chukwu.
Okoye emphasised that the dismissal sends a strong message to all operatives. He noted that the new Imo Police Commissioner, Audu Garba Bosso, has made it clear that corruption, professional misconduct, and high-handedness will not be tolerated within the command.
The case has reportedly caused a stir within the command, reinforcing the force’s commitment to accountability and adherence to professional conduct. The officers will face prosecution in a law court as part of ongoing measures to tackle criminal behaviour within the police force.
