TINUBU SET TO HEADLINE 61ST ARGUNGU FESTIVAL DURING OFFICIAL VISIT TO KEBB
I
President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to undertake a one-day official visit to Kebbi State on Saturday, where he will inaugurate projects executed by the state government and attend the 61st edition of the 2026 Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival.
As part of the visit, the President is expected to serve as Special Guest of Honour at the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival, a landmark cultural event that attracts participants and tourists from across Nigeria and abroad.
The Argungu Festival, widely regarded as one of Africa’s most prominent cultural celebrations, is traditionally held along the banks of the historic Matan Fada river. The festival has earned international recognition and is listed by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
First held in 1934, the festival was originally conceived as a peace-building initiative between the Sokoto Caliphate and the Kebbi Kingdom. Over the decades, it has evolved into a major tourism and cultural showcase, featuring competitive fishing, traditional wrestling, music, dance, and exhibitions of local crafts.
The annual event also marks the end of the farming season and symbolizes unity and cooperation among communities in the region.
Saturday’s trip will mark President Tinubu’s first official visit to Kebbi State since assuming office.
