TRADITIONAL RULER KILLED IN AKURE NORTH AS GUNMEN ATTACK AGAMO COMMUNITY

Gunmen have reportedly killed Oba Kehinde Falodun, the traditional ruler of Agamo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, in a late-evening attack that has heightened security concerns in the area.

According to information gathered from local sources, the assailants, said to be more than 10 in number, stormed the monarch’s palace on Wednesday evening in what was initially believed to be an attempted abduction. Sources within the community stated that the attackers opened fire during the incident. However, conflicting accounts suggest that when the initial assault did not achieve their objective, the attackers reportedly used a blunt object during the confrontation, leading to the monarch’s death.

A family source confirmed that the incident occurred at the palace and described the attack as sudden and coordinated. The monarch’s wife also confirmed the development, stating that the assailants approached the community through the Itaogbolu axis. She alleged that the attackers were speaking a northern Nigerian language during the operation.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to release an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the attack or confirming arrests in connection with the incident. Efforts to reach relevant authorities for confirmation were ongoing.

The killing has sparked renewed concerns over security in parts of Ondo State, particularly in rural communities where traditional institutions play central roles in local governance and cultural leadership. Community members have called for intensified security presence and swift investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Further updates are expected as investigations progress.
