WOMAN ON THE RUN AFTER ALLEGEDLY STABBING HUSBAND DURING DOMESTIC DISPUTE IN YOBE
The Yobe State Police Command has launched a manhunt for an 18-year-old woman, identified as Khadija Jamilu, following an alleged violent attack on her husband during a domestic dispute in Potiskum Local Government Area of the state.
According to police authorities, the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday when the suspect allegedly used a knife to inflict a severe injury on her 25-year-old husband.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed that operatives of the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters responded to a distress call after the attack was reported.
The police spokesperson stated that the victim sustained a deep cut injury and was immediately rushed to the State Specialist Hospital in Potiskum for urgent medical attention. He was later referred to the Federal Medical Centre in Azare, Bauchi State, where he is currently receiving treatment.
SP Abdulkarim confirmed that the suspect fled the scene shortly after the incident and remains at large. He added that security operatives have intensified efforts to apprehend her, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, Emmanuel Ado, condemned all forms of domestic violence, stressing that marriage should never become an avenue for abuse or physical harm.
The police commissioner emphasized that marital relationships should be built on mutual respect, understanding, patience, and tolerance. He further advised couples to seek counselling before and during marriage, manage conflicts through peaceful dialogue, and involve trusted mediators such as family members, religious leaders, or community elders when disputes escalate.
The command also called on community leaders, families, and relevant stakeholders to intensify awareness campaigns among youths on healthy relationships, conflict resolution, and the dangers of resorting to violence in resolving marital disagreements.
