LAGOS PASTOR SAYS JOHN 3:16 TATTOO SPREAD THE GOSPEL TO MILLIONS IN 24 HOURS

Lagos-based pastor and relationship coach, Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, has defended a Bible-inspired tattoo on his arm, describing it as a creative method of spreading the Gospel. The tattoo, revealed in a video posted on his official Instagram page, features John 3:16 in Roman numerals — “III: XVI.” The clip, shared in celebration of his 50th birthday, opens with a voice-over reciting the scripture, widely regarded as central to Christian faith.

In a Facebook post, Okonkwo wrote: “My religious brothers and sisters were busy judging the tattoo; they did not notice that the Gospel (John 3:16) reached millions in 24 hours through almost all major blogs.”

The unveiling drew mixed reactions online. Some critics questioned whether a pastor displaying a tattoo aligns with biblical teachings. One user commented, “The Bible says we should not make a mark on our skin. I know God’s word hasn’t changed, so hmmmm…” Another wrote, “As a pastor, you should guide members according to the Bible.”

Others praised the tattoo as a modern act of faith. One follower said: “Tatted! ‘And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.’” Another jokingly added, “Now I can get my tattoo. My mentor gbe mi debe,” meaning, “My mentor got me there.”

Known for his contemporary approach to relationship and marriage teachings, Okonkwo continued to share photos from his birthday celebrations, captioning one post, “Still celebrating the big Five 0.”

Addressing the growing debate, the pastor urged followers to remain calm and promised further discussion after the weekend festivities: “Those who want to hear about tattoos, drink water and relax. We will talk on Monday after the parties this weekend.”

Through the tattoo, Okonkwo framed his action as an unconventional approach to evangelism, turning controversy into an opportunity for dialogue on creative ways to spread the Christian message.
