LAGOS–AKURE TREK: MAN WALKS 16 DAYS TO CELEBRATE ONDO AT 50, GOV AIYEDATIWA’S FIRST YEAR IN OFFICE
A man identified as Love Olawumi has embarked on a remarkable long-distance trek from Alausa, Ikeja in Lagos State to Alagbaka, Akure, Ondo State, in celebration of Ondo State’s 59th anniversary and the first year in office of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
Olawumi began the physically demanding journey about 16 days ago, describing it as a personal commitment to honour the state’s progress and the administration of Governor Aiyedatiwa, who assumed office as the Executive Governor of Ondo State one year ago.
Speaking during the journey, Olawumi explained that the trek was carefully planned, noting that he relied on a navigation map to guide his movement across states and communities along the route. He also disclosed that he received advice ahead of the journey to carry sufficient water to cope with the rigours of long-distance trekking, especially under varying weather conditions.
As of the latest update, Olawumi has reached Ajebamidele, a community located at the boundary between Ondo State and Ogun State, marking a significant milestone in the journey as he approaches his destination in Akure.
The trek has drawn attention on social media and among local residents along the route, with many describing it as a rare demonstration of endurance, civic enthusiasm and personal commitment to celebrating state milestones through peaceful and symbolic action.
Ondo State is marking 50 years since its creation, while Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration commemorates one year in office, a period that has featured policy initiatives and governance reforms aimed at development and stability across the state.
Olawumi expressed optimism about completing the trek safely and reaching Alagbaka, the seat of government in Ondo State, in time to join the anniversary celebrations.
