MAKINDE DECLARES PDP FREE OF INTERNAL DISRUPTORS AFTER OYO SECRETARIAT UNVEILING
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has overcome internal disruptions following the removal of individuals he described as “vagabonds” from the party’s affairs.
Makinde made the statement on Tuesday during the official unveiling of the Oyo State PDP Secretariat in Ibadan, the state capital, where he expressed confidence that the party is now stable and focused.
According to the governor, the group gained influence within the PDP after the party lost control of the Federal Government in 2015, a development he said created a leadership vacuum.
Drawing from a Yoruba proverb to explain the situation, Makinde said that internal unrest often persists until disruptive elements are confronted and addressed.
He stated that the group dominated party activities for nearly a decade before being removed from leadership positions in November 2025, stressing that the PDP has since regained internal cohesion.
Makinde also clarified that the Oyo State Government is not involved in the PDP’s internal legal disputes or national leadership disagreements, noting that governance remains his primary responsibility.
Reflecting on his political journey, the governor acknowledged that he was previously aligned with the group during his early years in office but has since withdrawn his support.
He further emphasized that he would not endorse any attempt by the group to regain influence within the party, insisting that the PDP must move forward without internal distractions.
The governor concluded by suggesting that the group’s relevance within the party had diminished and expressed optimism about the PDP’s future direction in Oyo State and beyond.a
