MICROBIOLOGY DEPARTMENT CELEBRATES PROF. FELIX AKINYOSOYE WITH NOVELTY MATCH AS HE RETIRES FROM FUTA
The Department of Microbiology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has honoured Professor Felix Akinyosoye, a distinguished academic who recently retired from the institution after years of dedicated service.
As part of activities organised to celebrate his retirement, the department hosted a novelty football match in his honour, drawing participation from students across different academic levels.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of FUTA, Professor Adenike Oladiji, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Timothy Amos, congratulated Professor Akinyosoye on his retirement and commended his exemplary service to the university. She urged both staff and students to take inspiration from his professional conduct and commitment to academic excellence.
Professor Oladiji also praised the Department of Microbiology for successfully organising the event and acknowledged the role of the Student Union in ensuring active student participation throughout the celebration.
In his response, Professor Akinyosoye expressed gratitude to the university management, colleagues, and students for what he described as an overwhelming show of love and appreciation. He noted that the honour would remain a memorable highlight of his academic journey.
Addressing the students, he encouraged them to remain focused and diligent in their pursuits. “There is no shortcut anywhere to success. The only reward for hard work is more work,” he advised.
The novelty competition featured teams drawn from 100 to 500-level students. The final match, held on February 11, 2026, saw the 500-level team, known as the Microbian Lions, face off against the 200-level team. After an engaging 90-minute encounter, the Microbian Lions secured a decisive 5–1 victory.
The event concluded on a celebratory note, reflecting the department’s appreciation for Professor Akinyosoye’s contributions to academic development and mentorship within the university community.
