APC FINALISES ONDO WARD CONGRESS AS RESULTS FROM 18 LGAS SUBMITTED AMID IDANRE INCIDENT
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has completed its ward congress, with returning officers from all 18 local government areas formally submitting their results to the Ward Congress Committee.
The submission took place at the party’s secretariat in Akure, where the committee chairman, Chief Margaret Aruruenu, confirmed receipt of the reports. She stated that the exercise was conducted across the state’s 203 wards and described the process as generally peaceful.
According to Aruruenu, the congress was held in all local government areas in line with party guidelines. She commended party officials and members for their participation and adherence to the stipulated procedures.
The committee’s secretary, Barrister Smart Iheazor, also said the exercise complied with the directives issued for the congress. He noted that while there were reports from some areas, none, according to the committee, invalidated the overall outcome of the process.
Iheazor disclosed that an Appeal Committee is scheduled to sit to consider any petitions arising from the congress, in accordance with the party’s internal mechanisms.
Despite the committee’s position, reports from Idanre indicated that violence occurred during the exercise. Local sources alleged that four persons lost their lives, while Engr. Raphael Adetimehin, identified as a younger brother of the state APC chairman, sustained injuries in the incident.
The ward congress is part of the APC’s internal democratic process to strengthen its grassroots structure across Ondo State.
