BANDITS HACK ONDO MONARCH TO DEATH IN PALACE ATTACK, DAUGHTER RECOUNTS
The Alagamo of Agamo, Oba Kehinde Jacob Falodun, was reportedly hacked to death by suspected bandits who stormed his palace in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State on Wednesday evening, his daughter has recounted.
According to the monarch’s daughter, the attackers arrived around 6:00 p.m., shortly after the king returned from Akure. She said the gunmen, numbering about 10, began firing shots that forced residents to flee for safety.
“The king had come back from Akure and wanted to rest outside the palace. Three gunmen positioned at the entrance while seven others moved inside. I ran into a nearby bush as one of them chased me, but I managed to escape unharmed,” she said in tears.
She explained that the bandits dragged her father while she pleaded for help. The attackers reportedly spoke Hausa and wore clothing resembling that of Fulani herders.
“They carried him several times and kept shooting into the air. Eventually, they brought out a sharp object and attacked him outside the palace. My father was killed with blood gushing from his head,” she said. The attackers also assaulted the Olori (wife of the monarch) and a female guest, seizing the guest’s mobile phone.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating it occurred on February 18, 2026, at about 7:10 p.m. Police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh said officers received a report at 7:50 p.m. that armed men had taken the monarch from his residence. The victim was later found a few metres away with gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene.
The police, in collaboration with the Amotekun corps, local hunters, and vigilante groups, have launched a manhunt for the suspects. “Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects. Monitoring and surveillance activities have been intensified to ensure residents’ safety,” the command added.
Authorities are urging community members with information to cooperate with security operatives to bring the attackers to justice.
