BLOODSHED ROCKS ONDO APC WARD CONGRESS AS TWO FEARED DEAD, PARTY CHAIRMAN’S BROTHER FIGHTS FOR LIFE
Violence erupted during the ward congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State on Wednesday, leaving at least two persons feared dead and several others injured in Idanre, located in Idanre Local Government Area.
The incident, which reportedly disrupted the congress in parts of the local government, also resulted in the burning of a vehicle. Eyewitness accounts indicated that suspected hoodlums attacked party members at various wards, creating panic and halting proceedings in affected areas.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had not officially confirmed the number of casualties. However, multiple local sources said at least two individuals lost their lives during the unrest.
One of the victims of the violence was identified as Raphael Adetimehin, said to be a brother of the Ondo State APC Chairman, Ade Adetimehin. He was reportedly attacked at his ward in Idanre.
Confirming the development, Ade Adetimehin disclosed that his brother was shot and macheted by suspected thugs who allegedly mistook him for the party chairman.
According to him, the attackers fled the scene after believing their victim was dead. He expressed concern over the growing intensity of political violence within the party’s ranks.
Police authorities in the state said they were aware of the situation. When contacted, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, stated that further details would be provided after preliminary investigations.
The latest crisis occurred less than 24 hours after another violent incident at the APC state secretariat in Akure, the state capital, where suspected thugs disrupted a stakeholders’ meeting. The meeting had been presided over by the state chairman and was reportedly cut short following the disturbance.
The back-to-back incidents have heightened tension within the Ondo State chapter of the APC ahead of its ongoing internal restructuring process. Security agencies are expected to intensify monitoring in affected areas to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
Authorities have urged party members and residents to remain calm while investigations continue.
