EDO POLICE COMMISSIONER ASSURES RESCUE OF KIDNAPPED OFFICER AND OTHERS

The Nigeria Police Force in Edo State has assured residents that a police officer abducted along with his daughter on February 8 will be rescued safely, the state Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, confirmed on Friday.

Speaking to journalists at the command headquarters in Benin, Agbonika said that efforts were ongoing to secure the release of both victims without harm. He also assured that two other individuals kidnapped in Makeke, Akoko Edo Local Government Area, on the same day would be rescued.

“Rescue efforts are ongoing. While operational details cannot be disclosed, technology has been deployed to secure their release,” Agbonika said.

The Commissioner urged residents to report unmanned checkpoints, warning that officers assigned to such posts would face sanctions.

Agbonika highlighted the Edo State Police Command’s achievements since January in combating crime. He noted that 13 suspected murderers, 14 armed robbers, 15 suspected cultists, and 87 alleged kidnappers had been arrested. The command also rescued 30 kidnapped victims, recovered six stolen vehicles, three motorcycles, and 39 mobile phones, and confiscated a cache of arms and ammunition.

“Each weapon recovered is a life potentially saved, and each suspect arrested disrupts a criminal network,” the CP said. He acknowledged the support of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, who authorised the deployment of a police helicopter and tactical intelligence support, and commended Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo for donating drones and other logistics to enhance operational capacity.

Agbonika warned that Edo State remains “totally out of bounds to criminals” and that no forest, hideout, or fortified network will be beyond police reach. He also urged residents to celebrate the Valentine season responsibly, promoting peace and security while spending time with loved ones.
