FCT MINISTER WIKE LAUNCHES COURTROOM EXPANSION TO REVOLUTIONIZE JUSTICE DELIVERY IN ABUJA
The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has pledged that the construction of new court complexes across Abuja will significantly enhance justice delivery and resolve the persistent shortage of courtrooms in the nation’s capital.
Wike made the remarks on Friday while inspecting ongoing High Court and Magistrate Court projects in Asokoro, Jabi, and Garki, expressing confidence that the intervention would strengthen the judicial system in the FCT.
“We are undertaking road projects, and today we are inspecting our intervention in the judicial sector to provide more courthouses for the FCT High Court and Magistrate Courts,” Wike said, commending the pace and quality of construction, particularly at the Garki site. He acknowledged the challenges posed by the terrain in Asokoro but stated that they would be overcome.
Contractors handling the projects have assured the minister that all complexes will be completed and delivered before the end of June 2026. “With this intervention, Mr President has ensured that FCT courts will have adequate courthouses to dispense justice as required,” Wike added.
The minister emphasised that strengthening the judicial arm is as critical as investing in roads, schools, and healthcare facilities. He noted that providing adequate courtrooms and proper accommodation for judicial officers would improve efficiency, reduce case backlogs, and enhance public confidence in the justice system.
Current road projects in the FCT, including major networks connecting the Airport Expressway to Kuje and Gwagwalada, are also progressing and are expected to be completed by June 2026. Wike reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s commitment to balanced development across all sectors to ensure residents benefit from improved infrastructure and stronger institutional support.
