ILE-OLUJI/OKEIGBO APC WARD CONGRESS HOLDS PEACEFULLY

Akindolire calls for stronger grassroots engagement

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward Congress in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State was conducted peacefully and concluded successfully, with party leaders and stakeholders commending members for their orderly conduct and commitment to democratic values.

The exercise, held as part of the party’s internal electoral process on Wednesday, 18th February 2026 at each ward Secretariat across the 10 wards of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government witnessed participation from party faithful across the wards, with consensus candidates adopted throughout the local government.

Stakeholders described the consensus arrangement as a demonstration of unity, cooperation, and shared purpose among members at the grassroots level.

All the Leaders of the party from the Federal level, State level and Local level were present to observe the process, alongside officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who monitored the proceedings in line with established guidelines.

Observers reported that the congress was conducted without disruption, reflecting what many described as the strong culture of orderliness and civic responsibility within the local government.

Speaking at the event, the Ondo State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Laolu Akindolire, congratulated the newly elected ward executives and urged them to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, integrity, and a deep commitment to the welfare of the people they represent.

He emphasized that effective grassroots leadership remains critical to strengthening governance and sustaining internal party cohesion.

Hon. Akindolire assured party members that Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government would soon experience increased presence and engagement from the state government, aimed at supporting development initiatives and improving service delivery.

While expressing satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the congress, the Commissioner also voiced concern over what he described as a low turnout during the recently concluded APC membership registration exercise in the area.

He encouraged party members to show greater participation in future activities, noting that robust grassroots engagement is essential to building a strong and inclusive political structure.

Nonetheless, he appreciated those who contributed to the success of the registration process and the smooth conduct of the ward congress.

The successful and peaceful exercise is widely regarded as a positive signal for political stability within Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo and a reinforcement of democratic culture at the grassroots level in Ondo State.
