OSUN GOVT, APC TRADE ACCUSATIONS OVER ALLEGED PROTEST DURING TINUBU’S VISIT
Osogbo, Nigeria – February 13, 2026 – The Osun State Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have exchanged accusations over an alleged plan to stage a protest during the visit of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the state.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the state government alleged that members of the APC were planning to organise a protest aimed at causing a breakdown of law and order during the President’s visit.
The government further claimed that the alleged protest was designed to create tension and shift blame to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Accord Party in the state.
According to the statement, residents were advised to avoid Mandela Freedom Park in Osogbo, the venue of the President’s scheduled engagement, to prevent being caught in any potential unrest. The government maintained that it would not be intimidated by actions capable of disrupting public peace.
Reacting to the allegations, the Osun APC described the claims as unfounded and politically motivated. In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the party denied any plan to stage a protest during President Tinubu’s visit.
The APC accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of attempting to blackmail the opposition and distract from political developments within the state. The party also urged security agencies, including the state Commissioner of Police, to remain vigilant and ensure law and order.
The exchange comes ahead of the formal reception of five National Assembly members elected under the PDP platform in the 2023 general elections, who are scheduled to be received into the APC in Osogbo.
Political tensions in the state have intensified in recent weeks, particularly as preparations continue for the August 8, 2026 governorship election.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have not issued any official statement regarding the alleged protest.
