The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have directed their members in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to resume work, following a late-night conciliatory meeting with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The unions issued a circular on February 3, 2026, jointly signed by TUC Secretary-General Nuhu Toro and NLC Acting General Secretary Benson Upah, instructing affiliates to comply immediately. The meeting was convened at the instance of Senator Mohammed Bomoi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT.
According to the unions, the meeting started at 11:45 pm and concluded at 3:51 am, during which all concerns raised by FCT workers were addressed, and Minister Wike assured mutual respect and ongoing engagement.
The circular also confirmed that no worker would face victimisation due to the strike action. It further directed that all pending cases at the National Industrial Court be withdrawn.
“All affiliates are hereby instructed to resume work immediately,” the circular read, urging strict compliance in the interest of industrial peace and harmony.
The directive followed the suspension of a planned protest by NLC and TUC, which had been scheduled in solidarity with FCT workers on strike since January 19 over unpaid salaries, promotion arrears, and poor working conditions.
The development comes after the National Industrial Court issued an injunction restraining the unions from any protest or industrial action within the FCT, following an application by the FCT administration. The matter is adjourned to February 10. The FCT Police Command had also advised the unions to suspend the protest due to potential security risks.
Our correspondent observed workers returning to the FCTA Secretariat around 8:30 am, signaling the resumption of normal operations.
